Whenever I try to open a game, it says that "the program has encountered some
serious problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience". Then, Below
it, it says "This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in
Wine. You may want to check the 'Application Database' for tips about running
this application"

Steam will not work with any version of Wine older than 1.7.8. You need to
upgrade.

I upgraded to Wine 1.7.50

Did you reinstall Steam to a clean wineprefix under 1.7.50? If not, do that. If
the problem is still present in a clean wineprefix, attach (don't paste) the
full terminal output.
