--- Comment #4 from LCID Fire lcid-fire@gmx.net 2008-03-23 05:54:02 --- This is working - but I need a way to get my old wine installation up and running again. So what causes this problem?

--- Comment #5 from L. Rahyen mail@science.su 2008-03-23 06:16:34 --- If this is working why you changed bug resolution? If you cannot reproduce this bug with clean WINE prefix then this means it's INVALID.
BTW, in future if you have questions like this write your question to wine-users ML or WINE forum. Bugzilla is really isn't a place for this.
Short answer:
Some time ago I wanted to recover one of my WINE prefixes (which stopped working for unknown reason with strange errors) and I ended up removing a half of registry file (first you want to find out what registry file causing the problem by moving them away one-by-one), trying what isn't working again (running winecfg in your case), and if it works - put what I removed back and trying to remove another half of registry. If it doesn't, put back just a half of what I removed. And so on... If you lucky enough and have enough patience, you will find what's wrong with your registry. But personally I don't recommend above way unless you really need to repair your broken prefix because this can take hours of manual work...
In case if you have more questions or need farther help please ask on WINE mailing list or forum, bugzilla isn't a place for that. Thanks.

What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution| |FIXED
--- Comment #6 from LCID Fire lcid-fire@gmx.net 2008-03-23 06:35:00 --- I found that the problem lies in the user.reg - when removing the following entry it worked again: [Software\Wine\X11 Driver] 1193595625 "DXGrab"="N" "Managed"="Y" "ScreenDepth"="32"
I'm pretty sure that this entry did not appear out of nowhere - and it did work a few versions before - so I'd suspect it is a regression in winecfg. And I put it up here because I suspect perhaps I'm not the only one having a problem with this.
