Summary: Rainmeter skin backgrounds are not transparent (Kwin & Compiz) Product: Wine Version: 1.1.19 Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: miketrml@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=20607) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20607) Rainmeter's black background in a virtual window. The black border is also evident on the desktop.
I have looked throughout the database to find one or two workable programs similar to this bug. I will list them here within this bug report as no listed bug specificly deals with Rainmeter's issue.
Rainmeter is a program which displays various GUI elements within Windows, featuring system information neatly displayed in a varying array of skinned elements, whether they be text, abstract graphic, anime, or otherwise.
The program installs itself with no issue. The skin loads given the nature and workaround of bug 18142, a GDIPLUS-related issue in which Winetricks will install.
The problem is presented upon actually having loaded a skin. The background appears to be virtually black, and upon changing the program's transparency from an option within Rainmeter, the black background also changes transparency with the skin, allowing the wallpaper behind it to show through.
When initially clicking on the window, the black background goes transparent for a half a second or so and then reprints the black background. Also, no matter if you're using Compiz or Kwin under KDE 4.2.2, this is a problem persisting in it's existance.
10091 is a similar bug to this, but this problem persists under Kwin as already stated. Secondly, the bug also exists regardless whether or not Rainmeter is loaded within a virtual window.

--- Comment #1 from Michael Tramel miketrml@gmail.com 2009-04-22 11:09:19 --- In addition, Rainlendar2, a Calendar/To-Do program for graphic snippets on the desktop (also by Rainy), leaves transparent boxes such as the ones listed above around the loaded skins.

--- Comment #3 from Michael Tramel miketrml@gmail.com 2009-04-28 09:21:35 --- Per the forum thread of this topic ( http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=23871 ), a user, jay, has helped in identifying this bug is worked around using WinME or lower for correct display.
I'm using Win98 as of current for Rainmeter's operation.
The bug still isn't "fixed", per say, as this appears to disable transparency entirely, loading the skin at 0% transparency and graying out Rainmeter's transparent options.

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-10-29 15:26:21 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.32 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #5 from Michael Tramel miketrml@gmail.com 2009-11-10 13:27:09 --- As of Wine 1.1.32, the problem regarding black boxes no longer appears if (and only if) gdiplus is installed via winetricks or another method, ie. grabbing gdiplus.dll from a previous Windows install and copying it to the wine /windows/system32/ directory.
However, there is a new problem that has developed as a result of this, and it is potentially as bad as the previous (possibly in relation to the previous, therefore my posting it under this bug):
While loading Rainmeter under wine within an X terminal for output purposes, the following is displayed:
fixme:gdiplus:GdipCreateHICONFromBitmap
This is displayed every second or so, and each time it displays the shadow for the Rainmeter skin, while normal w/ the rest of the desktop on it's initial load, gradually becomes darker and darker as this message displays in the terminal. Eventually, after ten or fifteen seconds, the shadow is so dark it's practically an eyesore by comparison.
Thus, to answer your question as to whether or not it's an issue: transparency is fixed, shadow is not, both are in relation to gdiplus. Do I need to post a new bug as a result of this?

--- Comment #6 from Michael Tramel miketrml@gmail.com 2009-11-10 13:57:15 --- Oops, no it's not fixed. I had things changed as Win98. Actually, now it's worse - no skin displays at all using 'Using global settings' in winecfg.
The practice IS substaintially better and as listed above when allowing Rainmeter to run under Win98, however.
Sorry for the mixup! So, yes, problem still exists, so on so forth.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-12-23 19:07:00 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.3.9 or newer) wine?

Is this still an issue with 1.7.0 or higher ?
