Starting the game, pressing ESC to skip intro when began. Selected "New journey". ESC a couple of times through the starting dialog (screenshot is from there) took exit from game when you can start playing.

The console output is completely different this bug says: fixme:d3d_surface:IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_UnlockRect Depth Stencil buffer locking is not implemented and it effects all the models not just the main character.
In 11819 the console output is: err:d3d_surface:d3dfmt_p8_init_palette This code should never get entered for DirectDraw!, expect problems and the models do render except for the main character.

I think it is valid as a duplicate. I filed this bug report on the full game, while joaopa filed it on the demo. I think it is better to keep the demo bug as the main bug, since the demo is downloadable and therefore the likelihood that someone takes a look at it is greater.
