What happens when you run wineboot in a terminal? it looks like you have a

I do apologize. I should have mentioned that I've tried using wineboot several times. A output of WINEDEBUIG=warn+all will be attached. And I've downloaded wine from winehq.org, both in .deb format and compiled, same results.
Solution is quite simple: add a fake advpack.dll in system32. I've sent a patch
to wine-patches for this. For now you can just do 'touch ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/advpack.dll'. This fixes the problem with the trial version. Could you report back if it fixes the problem for you too? Thanks. <<
