Video card: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 65x/M650/740 PCI/AGP VGA Display Adapter Driver: SiS Distro: Ubuntu Gusty 7.10 Just changed X from 24 to 16bpp and same problem. I think the problem is this error: err:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_GetGDISurface IWineD3DDevice::GetBackBuffer failed

Yes, the demo crashes on startup in a very similar way for me, using wine-1.1.43-408-g3317fc3.

I tested my Airline Tycoon CD with Wine 1.3.34 (after doing winetricks ddr=gdi as suggested). I still get a crash here, log attached if anyone feels like looking at it.

Nvidia Geforce Go 7300, I don't remember which driver version was in use when I created the attachment in comment 17.
I re-tested Airline Tycoon with Wine 1.3.36, Nvidia driver 280.13 and virtual desktop mode enabled (without doing winetricks ddr=gdi). The virtual desktop window opens then the program seems to hang using all CPU time. On pressing Ctrl-C I got this output:
err:ddraw:ddraw_surface7_Flip Can't find a flip target surface.c:5276: unsafe_impl_from_IDirectDrawSurface7: Assertion `iface->lpVtbl == &ddraw_surface7_vtbl' failed. wine: Assertion failed at address 0xf7798430 (thread 0024), starting debugger...
After doing winetricks ddr=gdi the game crashes about half the time, and gets to the menu screen the rest of the time.

The same happens with Polish version of Airline Tycoon. Occasionally game starts, but the game renders faulty latter.
