wine 1.3.16 output

The Gratuitous Space Battles demo (downloaded from http://www.positech.co.uk/
Mar 22, 2011) fails to run.  An error dialog showing the following error is
displayed:

Failed to initialise 3D Engine:..\src\Game.cpp 321

I have also tried wine versions 1.1.37, 1.2.2, & 1.3.6 with the same results.

Yes, other games run OK with Wine.  I'm using the latest NVidia driver (
260.19.44).

Doesn't work for me either. I get the same error as the reporter of this bug. A
+d3d,+relay log shows for me an error:

In a virtual desktop, after setting size to 800x768 at least the the initial
splash screen comes up, but then nothing happens anymore

Is this still an issue in current (1.7.6 or newer) wine? If so, please attach
