When starting Counter Strike: Source from steam the game goes to the usual black full-screen but instead of going to the game it goes back in to a window and what appears to be a garbled mess of whatever was under the screen.
That means that I have to kill the screen which then means I can't exit out of Steam in the proper manner because it thinks the game is still running.
I have tried pressing the arrow buttons to listen to the telltale clicks that the game uses when you hover the cursor over an option but alas, nothing.
Half Life 2 works like a charm though.

oops, I see you listed your video card and drivers. Might be worth trying to revert 12d1ff8ef6c34533a20008f4cfeb73ee4c601a5d and e3720c2810dda3895d6734c55117b0a355223b1a to see if it resolves the issue.

Reopen if you can reproduce with clean WINEPREFIX and _recent_ Wine version.
