Summary: Civilization 4 Total Realism Mod Crashes on Play Now Product: Wine Version: 1.1.41 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ben@xnode.org
Created an attachment (id=26948) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=26948) Log from start up till the crash
Civilization 4 with the "Total Realism" mod crashes the moment you click the Play menu option. The standard game and Warlords addon work at this point so the mod must be doing something different to cause the crash.
The backtrace seems to get stuck at step 1 and Wine has to be killed.

--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2010-03-21 13:32:23 --- Attach _plain text_ output. Don't use some obscure programs. If you must compress something - use gzip.
Why is this new? Who confirmed it?

It was too big to attach as plain text else I would have.
LZMA is another name for 7z, you'll find that your archive manager probably opens it anyway, it's become force of habit to use because it has a far better ratio than bz2 which is useful for the ridiculously huge trace logs. I'll stick to gzip as long as the file size remains reasonable in future though.
The bug is marked as new because any bugs I open are automatically marked as "New" rather than "Unconfirmed".

--- Comment #3 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2010-03-22 11:45:38 --- You don't need to tar a file before compressing it.
From your log:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x5646f000 at address 0x7c3428fa (thread 0009), starting debugger... Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x5646f000, invalid program stack in 32-bit code (0x7c3428fa). (snip) Backtrace: =>0 0x7c3428fa in msvcr71 (+0x28fa) (0x56416c74)
Does native msvcr71 help? Try 'winetricks vcrun2003'.

--- Comment #4 from Benjamin Hodgetts ben@xnode.org 2010-03-22 13:22:46 --- Juan: Sorry, I thought I'd mentioned that originally but apparently not. Native msvcr71 doesn't help (that was the first thing I noticed).

--- Comment #5 from Thomas kronisk@hotmail.com 2010-03-22 21:18:19 --- I get the same error when trying to load the mod BUFFY (used for Hall of Fame games)
and produce the similar:
Backtrace: =>0 0x7c3428fa in msvcr71 (+0x28fa) (0x0ea7d5a0)
I can however use the mods that originally was installed with Civilization IV. I also tried winetricks vcrun2003 and it didn't help.

--- Comment #6 from Thomas kronisk@hotmail.com 2010-04-05 09:46:29 --- wine-1.1.42 does not fix this, error is the same as above and is 100% reproducable.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-11-25 15:02:45 CST --- Can you try this in git or 1.3.8 when it's released (should be tomorrow)? Does the demo have the same problem? http://download.cnet.com/Civilization-IV-demo/3000-7489_4-10465206.html
May be a dupe of bug 22618.

--- Comment #12 from Benjamin Hodgetts ben@xnode.org --- Unfortunately I don't have this installed anymore (or any Linux desktops to test with).
Same applies to all the other bugs I raised that are still outstanding, unless else someone can step in.
