wine '/media/sda1/Program Files/MZ-WinTranslator_V20/Transl32.exe'
Make sure you properly installed this program and run it the right way: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-3b297df7a5411abe2b8d37fead01a2b8edc21619
Also I don't see a crash anywhere.

OK. I try it again - here is what I did:
1.) I opened a konsole (KDE) 2.) Change to the folder where the application reside: cd '/media/sda1/Program Files/MZ-WinTranslator_V20' 3.) Set the WINEDEBUG environment var.: WINEDEBUG=warn+all WINEDEBUG=+loaddll 4.) I start the application with: wine Transl32.exe 2>&1 | tee ~/test/mz-translator.log 5.) before I click into the menu I had alock to the console window to identify the last actions and their results inside this window. 6.) I click the menu entry 7.) The application show me the error message seen in attachment no. 19802 (id) and terminate. 8.) The console window was closed by a click. 9.) I open the logfile by an editor and search for the part after I start the application.
I don't have so much ideas about what happens but I guess that this might be an error which terminate the app:
err:ole:OleLoadPicture IPersistStream_Load failed
When I wrote the bug report I was not clear: this error terminate the application. I said 'crash'. Maybe is not the same but for me the result - no application - was the same. Sorry for this fault.

Is this still an issue in current (1.1.29 or newer) wine?
I'm sorry but I'm not able to figure this out at this moment: the pakage wine v1.1.29 isn't in my repository (lamaresh.net) available. There is still v1.1.27.
I will try in some time (weeks?) again.

--- Comment #13 from Joerg Schiermeier newsletter@Schiermeier-Software.de 2009-09-05 21:43:07 --- Preface: OK, I just tried with wine v1.1.29 from the ubuntu server of Scott Ritchie. I tested this in bedian/squeeze but until now Ben Klein doesn't finish the v1.1.29-packages for debian.
I did again my check with this translation program, but still the same error. The program finish itself without any message, only showing the messagebox. See picture 'The error message - just before the crash' above. http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=19802
Some week ago I contact the author of this program showing him this messagebox: A cut off from the original answer:
---<cite>--- 1.) einen generellen "Laufzeitfehler '481': Ungültiges Bild" gibt es nicht (...) 2.) Da wir schon seit einigen Jahren keine neuen Bilder in das "Einträge bearbeiten"-Fenster eingefügt haben ---</cite>---
Translation: 1.) There is no 'runtime-error 481: invalid image' 2.) We didn't insert neu images into this dialog 'Edit entries' during the last years. (The entries are the words in the dictionary.)
I don't know, if this information helps, but maybe someone gets an idea. Thanks!

Does anything change if you install it in Wine instead of running from your Windows partition (unsupported)?

--- Comment #17 from Joerg Schiermeier newsletter@Schiermeier-Software.de 2009-10-09 19:53:24 --- Hi!
I just tried to do a regression test with the new wine v1.1.31 but I didn't get a result - or better said: I got some errors while compiling and doing the 'bisection'.
First: I cannot really remember the version when it works - only: this was before wine v1.0. Than: So I tried first with v0.9.50 but than I got several errors while compiling. I searched here in the forum and in the web and could fix some issues but at least there were new errors. I didn't finish the test and changed to do a bisection between v1.0 and v1.1.31, but than the same happens like before.
I interupt the regression test without a result. Hopefully this will be fixed by someone else.

--- Comment #18 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com 2009-10-09 20:14:44 --- Hi, Joerg.
I'm able to open this dialog without a crash using oleaut32 from dcom98 - I installed dcom98 first then switched ole32 and rpcrt4 back to builtin. After that it works.
Another thing I spotted - tab text after looks ok with native module, with builtin text is too small to read.

Ah, thanks. Just checked with manually installed windowscodecs and it starts fine without a crash. Native oleaut32 doesn't depend on this module of course, so now I'm not sure what component it's about. It's better to ask Vincent as author of these changes.

I'm not able to start again after first autostart after installation so I have to reinstall each time. Anyway log ends with some output which leads to abnormal termination with Runtime error message box.

--- Comment #23 from Vincent Povirk madewokherd@gmail.com 2009-10-10 12:43:27 --- Ok, so GifDecoder_Initialize is failing, meaning that Wine's copied libungif (which was moved unchanged from oleaut32 to windowscodecs) couldn't read the file. Either DGifOpen or DGifSlurp is failing.
Unfortunately, we don't have any traces in that code.
(Also, someone really needs to cut the IWICStreamImpl traces. We certainly don't need two lines for every read and probably don't even need one.)

--- Comment #28 from Vincent Povirk madewokherd@gmail.com 2009-11-29 18:56:20 --- The program is loading a GIF file that is missing a Trailer (or TERMINATE_RECORD_TYPE, as ungif calls it). I can make the image load by appending a ; to the end of the file or hacking the code to accept this.
The Trailer seems to be required by http://www.w3.org/Graphics/GIF/spec-gif89a.txt, but it seems other programs can display the broken file just fine.
