--- Comment #1 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-04-28 22:46:21 --- Might have new information about the bug.
It might be a securerom issue in the installer itself. The cd's i have are original, so i tried to install in a windows xp virtual machine.
First it complained about not enough space, that ignored because i was using virtual box with a resizable image. Then it went to where it crashed in wine.
The result where it crashed was this: "gothic 2 this cd was not verified as a authentic original" And quit.
The annoying part is that the CD IS original, and there is no gamecopyworld thing for the setup.

--- Comment #2 from Christoph Korn c_korn@gmx.de 2010-04-29 13:51:58 --- This bug is related to the securom copy protection.
Just kill the wine process (Ctrl+C) at the end of the installation before the SecuRom test fails. I think the game will run anyway.
This bug is a dup of bug 7065.

Maybe it's inappropriate to mess this bug report, but it could have some value for original reporter...
I tried different version (Gothic 2 Gold) and it install perfectly.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22515
--- Comment #4 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-04-29 15:30:37 --- That method doesn't work since in this version of gothic 2 (a 3 cd's alternative version, not the normal one) checks at the beginning of the install.
However i found a workaround. It is ugly, since i had to use a virtualized windows (no dual boot) because wine couldn't run the cmd line batch file (even with wine cmd), and i had to edit it, (used a old version probably that wasn't complete))

--- Comment #5 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-04-29 19:25:43 --- Actually, the one i needed to use (and change) is this: http://upload.worldofplayers.de/files4/G2extra12.zip
The other wont work as some files are not in the unextracted tree.

--- Comment #6 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-04-29 19:49:47 --- Resuming: For installing the portuguese version of gothic 2 3 cds Copy Gothic2-Setup.exe to a hard drive dir, copy from cd 2 Gothic2-Setup.W02 to the dir copy from cd 3 Gothic2-Setup.W03 to the dir
Change the bat file above to remove the error checks and the extended execution mode at the command extensions check (that don't work on wine)
Change the paths where it searches for those files on the cd to search on the current dir (".").
There - i don't think a virtual machine is needed.

--- Comment #7 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-04-29 20:01:58 --- Forgot to say: remove the copy from cd to current dir.
I will attach the altered batch file i'm using.

is the crash still present? Please _attach_ terminal output from running with _recent_ Wine version (1.4rc).
Also a full trace log would be helpful...

this looks like a broken sound config on your system, not related to copy protection.
There might be wine-pulse related settings in registry doing harm here (there were some changes in the past).
Ensure you're running the latest/greatest Wine-1.4rcX. Don't reuse the WINEPREFIX from previous Wine versions.
Again: please install the game in a clean WINEPREFIX with _recent_ Wine.

--- Comment #16 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2012-02-13 08:29:38 CST --- What makes you think i didn't?
wine --version wine-1.4-rc2
wine sound config is set to HDA Intel - ALC888 Analog on all input and output devices
Before, i used to set it to "Software" but that setting was nuked recently (no software mixer for me it seems, oh well, games don't need it anyway). The error is the same regardless. Am i supposed to nuke pulseaudio just to install a game (the game itself works).

--- Comment #17 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.16 or newer) wine?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22515
--- Comment #18 from Christoph Korn c_korn@gmx.de --- The installer does not crash but at the end of the installation the setup misses a CD. If you abort the setup all files will be deleted. The process has to be killed to prevent this.

Fixed, please open a new bug for the remaining issue.
