Bug #: 34761 Summary: Neverwinter Online: System lockup using fglrx drivers while loading Product: Wine Version: 1.7.0 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: DennisJohansen@GMail.com Classification: Unclassified
After logging in with the Neverwinter Online launcher, it starts to load the actual game. But locks up the entire system along the way. Last message shown in the game is "Materials reloaded".
Doing some regression testing points to this particular commit: commit 37d1e8b79cfc2c4ca7b947589574179470a06c42 Author: Henri Verbeet hverbeet@codeweavers.com Date: Fri Aug 16 09:12:30 2013 +0200
wined3d: Try to avoid redundant constant updates.
This gives a minor performance improvement. For example, in 3DMark03 Game Test 1 this gives about a 4% improvement, in the Counter Strike: Source stress test it's about 1%. (NVIDIA GF9600M, Intel T9550, 1024x768).

--- Comment #1 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2013-10-18 12:27:07 CDT --- Does commit 74faebd68d738ef44cc5990e883091329f72d7d7 / Wine 1.7.1 make it any better? Does it work with r600g?
System lockups are not Wine bugs by definition, even if something Wine does triggers them. In this case, I think it's likely fglrx is to blame for locking up the system.

--- Comment #2 from Dennis William Johansen DennisJohansen@GMail.com 2013-10-18 13:21:26 CDT --- I've tried with wine 1.7.1 and 1.7.4 too. They give the same results.
I know fglrx previously have had some issues with wine (I believe there was a workaround in wine for a while because of that?) - And Neverwinter Online works fine on nvidia proprietary drivers.
Testing with 74faebd68d738ef44cc5990e883091329f72d7d7 as the last commit gave a system lockup too.
The open source drivers aren't in a state that are usable for me. As in as soon as I log into XFCE, and it states "Loading desktop environment", the screen becomes a mess. The screen doesn't update from that point - So I can't say if it would give the same result with those, sorry.

--- Comment #3 from Brian Warren bwarren@yandex.com --- I tested Neverwinter today and found that the latest fglrx driver (13.11 Beta V9.95, in this case) with Wine 1.6 works just fine. Fglrx with 1.7 however does not.
