--- Comment #1 from James proglottis@gmail.com 2008-05-06 04:17:22 --- It does install OpenAL32.dll in the game directory but it doesn't seem to be the right one. If you replace it with the one downloaded from http://schmatzler.de/openal32.dll sounds works, but very low quality. Annoying none the less.
Also neither seem to produce any messages, so wine seems oblivious to the problem.

--- Comment #3 from Clerc Mathias tlarhices@gmail.com 2008-05-06 20:04:08 --- At least on my computer with latest GIT, the dll is still not installed at all. I know that at for many people the dll seems to be installed but not working but in my case there is none in the game folder. I'm putting the file list in attachment to make things clear.

--- Comment #7 from Clerc Mathias tlarhices@gmail.com 2008-05-07 08:35:21 --- This bug is about the dll not being installed, not the sounds problem. Maybe it should be better to open another bug report for the sound problem and leave this one keeping each problem separated.

I can confirm that the dll is installed and that replacing it with the one from that link does give better sound.

Hi,
This is a better way to obtain a good sound (and not just a acceptable...):
This is not a prb with OpenAL32.dll but with wrap_oal.dll.
1) Confirm that you have the game version of OpenAL32.dll and not the other (=http://schmatzler.de/openal32.dll)
2) Download this version of wrap_oal.dll: http://www.dllbank.com/zip/w/wrap_oal.dll.zip.
3) Change the game's wrap_oal.dll in the game's folder by the one you just download (and unzip) at 2)
4) You can change the configuration in the game to have a better sound experience.

Are you sure that you use the openal given with the game and not the older?

Closing bugs fixed in 1.1.5.
This bug should be reopened, it have never been fixed. I still have this bug with every version from 0.9 up to current (1.1.28). The attached file "wrap_oal.dll.zip" resolved the sound problem, but the sound still doesn't work with the game's default dll. I can only hear some noises.
Please reopen this bug.

This bug should be reopened, the sound still doesn't work with the game's default dll.
The game's "default dll" have problems (as all OpenAL dlls from Creative do). They won't work in the same configuration on Windows. So it's not a Wine bug really.
