After launching Broken Sword 3 the screens goes black for a second then returns to the desktop with a debug log in the terminal.
Running: Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 with a nVidia GTS 250 using nVdia drivers version 185.18.36.

Seems like you do not have that video mode available. Make sure it's configured in xorg.conf or you using virtual desktop.

If it still crashes, can you try by disabling the sound in Winecfg and then launch the game again
It still crashes with or without sound enabled.

It is still crashing with recent (very recent) GIT. I have downloaded version from GOG.com

--- Comment #7 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-12-11 02:20:33 CST --- This is a dupe of bug #9051: Broken Sword 3 and BS:The Sleeping Dragon are the same game. There's a sound3d patch in bug #9051 which should fix the crash for you (it can be applied cleanly on Wine-1.3.9).
