Summary: The Bat! v4.0.39.39 - build: 1.283: refuse to start - because of 'Themida' warning Product: Wine Version: 1.1.23 Platform: PC URL: http://www.ritlabs.com OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: newsletter@Schiermeier-Software.de
Created an attachment (id=21764) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=21764) Themida false warning
Starting up the 'The Bat!' application causes suddenly an error (it don't let it start) caused by a library inside 'The Bat!' called 'Themida'. This is to protect the software against patches, cracking, debugging etc. See URL: http://www.oreans.com. This failure blocks the application to start.
The company behing 'The Bat!' -RITLabs SRL- is using this componets inside 'The Bat!' since the v4.0.04.
My simple solutions was do override the 'thebat.exe' with a backup copy. Than works like before. But in the past this message come again some time later (weeks).

--- Comment #1 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2009-06-13 07:20:36 --- Hello,
can't reproduce this with 4.0.38, 4.1.x and 4.2.x versions (all protected by Themida). Can you md5sum/sha1sum both executables (current + backup) and see if they are different when this problem happens?
Also make sure you don't have additional software in WINEPREFIX that might interfere (installing hooks, patching memory), e.g. use a separate one for Themida protected apps.
Regards

This didn't happen predictable.

No changes. Also the EXE-file lives on a write-only mounted Partition.

I know the terms of hon to report a bug. This was done: I created a new WINEPREFIX just before.
e.g. use a separate one for Themida protected apps.
Good idea.
My solution was (Description): My simple solutions was do override the 'thebat.exe' with a backup copy. Than 'The Bat!' works like before. This fixes my problem but not wines problem. -- End of the story. I stop here.

4.0.39 is not available for download. http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/download.php
And? This 'phenomenon' happens since RitLabs links his program against the 'Themida' library. The first version of 'The Bat!' which had this lib inside was v4.0.0.4.
So all newer versions of 'The Bat!' builded are affected.
See also the report in this bug-tracker: bug no. 19158
and some reports in the German message board 'Batboard' URL: http://www.batboard.net/index.php/topic,9723.0.html
(only in German)
And this is also a wine problem: some wine version are not affected by this lib and others are like v1.1.24.
Maybe it is a regression. But at the moment I don't have and will not spend time to search for. -- End of the story. I stop here.

--- Comment #5 from Joerg Schiermeier newsletter@Schiermeier-Software.de 2009-10-09 20:01:08 --- This error disappear since RitLabs - the company behind 'The Bat!' - didn't work anymore with this library.
The first version of 'The Bat!' without 'Themida' is version 4.2.10.12 (Beta).
So - this bug is obsolete.
Also the related bug on MacOS is obsolete.
