Summary: Office 2007 splash screen hides dialog Product: Wine Version: 1.1.26 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kennybobs@o2.co.uk
Created an attachment (id=22741) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=22741) Screenshot
The Office 2007 apps have a splash screen that, for some reason, sticks around while you're going through the initial set-up.
Under Outlook (screenshot attached), this isn't a massive problem, but under Excel and Word, during the first run, Office opens a dialog box asking for your name. This is hidden under the splash image and it's not even obvious it is there. Tapping some letters and hitting enter allows the program to continue and splash screen to go away.
There are similar bugs open, but I don't know if this is a duplicate or not. Possible dupes: Bug 7552 & Bug 7669.

--- Comment #2 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2009-07-31 20:00:34 --- The problem is not new, nor is it limited to Office 2007. In the past I've seen it in Office 97 and 2003, though in recent Wine it seems to be fixed for Word and Powerpoint. Excel is still affected in all versions of Office I have (97, 2003, and 2007). The splash screen was smaller in the older versions of Office, so it was possible to see enough of the dialog box peeking out from behind the splash screen to grab the top edge and move it upward.

--- Comment #3 from anomalydetected@gmail.com 2009-08-25 14:59:49 --- In wine 1.1.28, the splash screen is no longer "always in front" for me in Outlook. I am able to see the Account Configuration wizard's window normally. However Word & Excel still have the initial "enter your name" window completely blocked from sight, so no change there.

--- Comment #4 from Dan Omar despinete@gmail.com 2010-04-21 07:25:54 --- In Excel 2003 i've managed to dissable the splash screen by running Excel from the command line adding the "/e" switch at the end, i.e.: "wine .wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/OFFICE11/EXCEL.EXE /e" I think that in word you can use "/q", for powerpoint "/splash" (all without quotes) Hope this helps

--- Comment #5 from eisa01 eisa01@gmail.com 2010-04-21 07:55:53 --- I'm not seeing this at all on 1.1.43
Tested: Outlook (has other issues though, so won't run), OneNote, Publisher, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
So, I don't think this is an issue with Office 2007 anymore.
