whenever I change the video mode.

--- Comment #2 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-01-17 13:10:11 CST --- I can't reproduce the problem, but this may due to the differences between our systems/game versions. Switching between windowed/full-screen mode works here, tried with 1.3.36 and 1.3.37, both in virtual desktop mode and in Wine's full-screen mode.
Baldur's Gate v1.3.5521 Fedora 16 Nvidia 250 / driver 290.10 Gnome 3
Does the problem occur in virtual desktop mode as well? Can you try with a newer Nvidia driver version?
I linked this bug report to the corresponding AppDB entry, in case someone else has this problem.

--- Comment #3 from Paul Dirac john015@libero.it 2012-01-21 05:05:39 CST --- Hi GyB, I've tried to play in virtual desktop mode: the screen occupies only the virtual area, not the whole "physical" desktop - but I suppose this is the correct behavior. The console message remains the same:
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x329848,0x00000000), stub! fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x3299b8,0x00000000), stub!
Now I test the game with a newer Nvidia driver wersion.

--- Comment #4 from Paul Dirac john015@libero.it 2012-01-25 11:11:50 CST --- Tested today with latest NVidia driver, version 290.10. Still nothing to do with fullscreen mode.
One strange thing: if I change the sound volume via the buttons on my laptop I can see the (x)Ubuntu notification on the right side of the black screen.

--- Comment #5 from Goblinstomper@gmail.com 2012-07-26 16:53:34 CDT --- this doesn't seem to be an issue with fglrx in wine 1.5.9, is it still an issue for nvidia owners?

--- Comment #6 from mailbox.tec@gmail.com 2012-09-05 08:02:54 CDT --- Created attachment 41575 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41575 Messages from dmesg after running BGMain.exe in fullscreen.
Hello
I can confirm this issue for Wine 1.5.12.
The issue appears when executable is launched fullscreen, without virtual desktop. In virtual desktop mode, it seems to be running fine. Also, if window switching is attempted (Ctrl+Tab) with game in fullscreen, tiny video output appears, occupying roughly 1/4th of screen resolution (which in full is 1280x1024) in top-left corner, the rest remaining black. It's very pixelated and shows game's main menu. With futher switching, it shows different desktop windows (if open), but latency is very low. Regardless of video output, sound is still played through alsa.
In my case, output from running BGMain.exe is:
radeon: The kernel rejected CS, see dmesg for more information. fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x329c48,0x00000000), stub! fixme:d3d_surface:wined3d_surface_flip Ignoring flags 0x1.
I've attached relevant dmesg log here. My system setup which I think may be relevant: Hardware ======== Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 6850 OC GPU Samsung SyncMaster 943t display
Software ======== Arch Linux x86_64 kernel 3.5.3-2-ck X11 1.12.4 X.org radeon driver 6.14.6 Wine 1.5.12 Mesa 8.0.4 along with radeon DRI driver

That's typically a bug in the userspace GL driver. You should report that at the freedesktop.org bug tracker, if there isn't a bug for that already.

--- Comment #9 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.28 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.28 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
