Summary: Every non-web-browser I've run: Doesn't load web pages Product: Wine Version: 1.1.31 Platform: PC URL: http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/try and http://webapps.prod.there.com/download/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: majix560@live.com
Programs include registration window of Game Maker 7 and the client for the SecondLife-like game There
It is a problem for me because Game Maker 7, by YoYoGames, uses a web page to facilitate registration. I think I know why it doesn't load. It uses internet explorer as a back-end to load it and wine's internet explorer doesn't work for it. And the actual Internet Explorer won't install because DriectX can't install.
P.S. Don't ask me for the name of the game, the name of the game really is There

--- Comment #1 from Devon L. Ferree majix560@live.com 2009-10-16 21:31:37 --- Download URL (It is here because there are two) http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/try for Game Maker 7 http://webapps.prod.there.com/download/ for There

--- Comment #2 from Devon L. Ferree majix560@live.com 2009-10-16 21:33:25 --- Wine does however load web pages succesfully in the only windows web browser I've used with the version of wine listed in this bug, which is Mozila FireFox.

Attaching a console log from running Game Maker and clicking on the Enter Activation Code button. A new window opens with the message "Please wait while the page is loading..." but the page never loads. This is in a clean wineprefix, 1.1.31, gecko installed.
Installing IE6 with winetricks enables the page to load. I can't test beyond that, as I don't have an activation code.

Internet explorer6 doesn't support the method used by the registration window of game maker for changing the activation type. I am going to try install Microsoft Cisual c++ 2008 redistibutable using winetricks and see if that'll let me install internet explorer 7 or 8

--- Comment #8 from Mark I. pilota51@gmail.com 2011-10-28 05:47:14 CDT --- Still present in 1.3.31 with both IE7 and IE8, haven't tested IE6.
This appears to have something to do with a lack of support for XML/XSL/XHTML/whatever. I am mostly experiencing this problem with There which uses XML extensively for its pages. Instead of loading the file within the browser, it prompts to save the file without an extension and says "Unknown File Type".

--- Comment #9 from Mark I. pilota51@gmail.com 2012-05-22 12:32:53 CDT --- Thanks to a tip from the maintainer of the There entry on AppDB, the solution appears to be to install MSXML 3 with the Wine architecture set to win32. I'm not sure if that's the solution for Game Maker 7, but it works for There. I was trying MSXML 4 before, which I mistakenly thought was meant to replace MSXML 3. In the case of There, IE7 seems to be optimal since the map doesn't work in IE6 and IE8 is considerably slower.
export WINEARCH=win32 winetricks ie7 winetricks msxml3
I believe this means the bug can be marked as invalid.
