Summary: thief deadly shadows crashes immediately Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc4 Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jlayton@poochiereds.net
Created an attachment (id=14073) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14073) log from crash
Thief: Deadly Shadows consistently crashes immediately for me when starting it. Log from startup attached with WINEDEBUG set to +relay.
This is using a cracked copy of t3.exe, but I get similar results when I use the copy-protected binary as well with the CD in the drive.
Happy to get any logs you wish from running it if they'll be helpful...

--- Comment #1 from Jeff Layton jlayton@poochiereds.net 2008-06-15 15:56:38 --- I need to correct myself. The game does still crash with the original (non-cracked) binary, but it seems to crash in a different spot (presumably something to do with the copy protection).

--- Comment #7 from Jeff Layton jlayton@poochiereds.net 2009-06-17 05:56:31 --- Yes, but it seems to crash at a different spot. When I run the copy protected version, it doesn't crash but just complains that it can't find the CD. I've attached a new backtrace from running the cracked t3.exe.

--- Comment #9 from Jeff Layton jlayton@poochiereds.net 2009-06-17 06:02:59 --- Actually, I'm able to get it to see the CD in the drive. But when I run the uncracked binary, wine crashes in winedevice with different backtrace from the cracked binary. My guess is that it's getting a little farther in starting up, but it's not quite there yet.

--- Comment #13 from Jeff Layton jlayton@poochiereds.net 2010-01-04 14:00:31 --- It doesn't fail the same way...
Using:
wine-1.1.32-1.fc12.i686
...it eventually starts popping up error windows and printing this to the terminal where it was run:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00650160 at address 0x6856ea93 (thread 001d), starting debugger... wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000002a at address 0x685f2134 (thread 0020), starting debugger... wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000002a at address 0x68428134 (thread 0022), starting debugger... wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000002a at address 0x68534134 (thread 0026), starting debugger... wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000002a at address 0x6c92e134 (thread 0028), starting debugger... wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000002a at address 0x6ff0b134 (thread 002a), starting debugger...
...the thief 3 demo actually seems to start now, but eventually it hung and took down X with it so I couldn't collect any info. I'll try to gather some more info soon and update the bug report.

--- Comment #14 from Olivier Duclos olivier.duclos@gmail.com 2010-09-24 14:27:38 CDT --- This is still an issue in wine 1.3.3 on a 64 bit system (but using 32 bit binaries of course). I had no problem running ThiefIII on my 32 bit laptop.
The full debug is more than 2M large (I have thousands of ntdll.RtlAllocateHeap), so I just post the backtrace. Tell me if you want more.

--- Comment #17 from Alessandro Pezzoni alessandro_pezzoni@lavabit.com 2011-07-17 17:16:25 CDT --- Both the original and cracked .exe still crash with wine 1.3.24 under Arch Linux x86_64, with or without applying the 1.1 patch. Using the .exe mentioned in the third post of this [1] thread solved the issue, though.
If you need more information, please do ask.
