Bug ID: 37110 Summary: Steam requires Arial/Times New Roman fonts to open Store/Profile/Community pages Product: Wine Version: 1.7.24 Hardware: x86 URL: http://media.steampowered.com/client/installer/SteamSe tup.exe OS: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: gyebro69@gmail.com
Created attachment 49334 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=49334 terminal output
The Steam client received a major update on 14/08/2014, since then the Store, Community, Profile pages won't load (remain blank) unless the user installs either Arial.ttf or Times.ttf via 'winetricks corefonts'. The game library page still opens without problems.
Steam isn't closing but those pages never load and a minidump file is saved in the /dumps directory but I can't see anything useful in it when loaded in winedbg.
Fedora 20 wine-1.7.24-14-gd1749b5

Having msttcorefonts installed also works around it.
I can confirm this. I've installed the "msttcorefonts" debian package and it fixed the issue.

--- Comment #4 from Storm hewanci@gmail.com --- I always had corefonts installed both via winetricks and on my system, yet store remains black and never loads. I tried reinstalling fonts to no avail.
Arch Linux 64 bit + KDE 5
Store used to work last time I check which was months ago, and it doesn't work now.

You maybe changed the Windows version in winecfg (default is Windows XP). When using a non-default version you might encounter various additional issues. This bug is still valid and installing corefonts (or other font replacements) fixes it.

--- Comment #6 from Ville Aakko ville.aakko@gmail.com --- I can confirm that no pages (except the game library) work in Steam via Wine. I have used "winetricks corefonts", and ms-ttf fonts are installed system-wide. I am also using Arch Linux. Maybe the bug report is not accurate, or maybe there are other problems with the same symptoms?
I'm running steam via a terminal and I can not see anything referring to fonts in the output.

Same thing for me now.
It worked for me a few months ago (see bug 51005) now no longer works with any version of wine i tried.
Maybe some setting in arch linux is related to this?

Solved. If you have the same symptoms keep in mind that things don't work if the steamwebhelper.exe process crashes (see bug 52016 for more info), is not responding or has been disabled in winecfg.

--- Comment #11 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- corefonts is needed just to log in (which ones exactly I didn't determine), so to progress I guess you would need to work around Bug 47325, then reverse the workaround to see if this is still an issue.
But I'm guessing it is still an issue.
