Summary: GTA4 crashes during "Lure" mission Product: Wine Version: 1.1.37 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: ntdll AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: knaprigt@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=26030) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=26030) Output after crash during the Lure mission in GTA4
GTA4 crashes during the mission "Lure" when the player is supposed to kill a drug dealer. Everything seems fine until the player reaches the roof where he should take the shot. First a cutscene is shown and when the player's returned to the controls the game crashes.
Tested with versions 1.0.0.4 and 1.0.4.0 of the game with the same results.
See attachment for terminal output displayed after the crash.
... also I don't know if this bugs component really is ntdll (maybe wined3d?), so someone may want to change that one.

Adding a save game for testing purposes.
To use the save game:
1) Extract the tar archive and copy the "SGTAxx" file to the location of your save games. On my system that is: "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/users/<username>/My\ Documents/Rockstar\ Games/GTA\ IV/savegames/".
2) Rename the save game from SGTA4xx to SGTA400 - SGTA411 (depending on what save games you already have).
3) Start the game and load the save game called "Holland Nights".
4) Go to the location marked "Fm" on the map and accept the mission.

Closing bugs fixed in 1.1.41.
The bug appeared again. Wine 1.5.8 and 1.5.9 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64-bit). It occurs when you try to watch the ingame tv (you always have a tv in your apartment), and in the 'Lure' mission there is a tv working in the victim's house. As soon as the tv gets turned on, the game crashes. It's impossible to finish the mission, I'm looking forward to getting this fixed...

--- Comment #11 from Ruslan b7.10110111@gmail.com 2012-08-28 14:26:12 CDT --- This seems to have never been fixed. The way one may work around this bug (and people in comment 4 and comment 6 might have inadvertently used it) is skipping the cutscene after which the game usually crashes. So, this should be reopened. I'm still not sure whether or not this is related to the TV in the window, because after I skip the cutscene the TV does show some flickering garbage, but doesn't lead to crash, so I can easily complete the mission.

Well, I have ubuntu 12.04 lts 64-bit and in gta iv if I turn on the tv, the game crashes. And in that mission there is exactly one in that guy's room. Even if I miss the cutscene, it crashes very soon. So soon that I can't shoot at the tv with a rifle lol

Try skipping it as soon as it starts (maybe pressing Enter repeatedly with high frequency) - I've seen this scenario - it just hung when I tried to skip it too late.

I did that in time, it crashed when I just aimed and was going to shoot.

--- Comment #15 from Piotr Pawlow pp@siedziba.pl 2012-11-22 18:09:44 CST --- On Wine 1.5.17 it always crashes for me in binkw32 module as soon as a TV that is on appears on the screen. It happens during this mission, and also when I turn on TV in my apartment.
A workaround is to rename "movies" directory, so the game can't find movie files, in which case it fails gracefully, shows just a grey screen on the TV, and doesn't crash.
