Summary: Railroad Tycoon 2: Platinum (Steam) crashes when setting resolution to 800x600 Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc6 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: 6doughnuts@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=29410) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=29410) Logs from the time of the crash - not sure if they're related or not.
After beginning a scenario I went into the Options menu and chose the 600x800 graphics mode. The application crashed and I got the WINE 'serious error' dialog. Attempting to restart the game causes it to crash again when it begins playing the intro movie.

I filed the bug just before heading to bed, so didn't read the FAQs properly. Sorry about that. The terminal log is attached this time. After the crash dialog it logged/crashed me out of my desktop session and I had to log in again.

Tested on ATI Radeon 3850 HD with fglrx driver 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4, Ubuntu 10.04 x64, intel Q6600 CPU, 4 GB RAM, wine 1.2
Downloaded Railroad Tycoon 2 Platinum via Steam. The game runs fine with the standard 1024x768 resolution but crashes immediatly when selecting 800x600 on the settings menu and refuses to start again.

I can confirm the issue in Wine-1.3.1 and using a Nvidia 7600 card with driver 256.44. The game crashes when you change the screen resolution to 800x600 in the game's option. After the crash you need to remove the rt2_tsc.cfg file from the game's directory in order to start the game again. That resets the configuration to the default.
The crash doesn't occur if I change DirectDrawRenderer to opengl in the registry: winetricks ddr=opengl
I attach a +d3d,+ddraw,+d3d_surface log, maybe a more experienced user or developer find something in it.

--- Comment #5 from maikwagner@yahoo.com 2011-01-09 13:56:55 CST --- I would also like to confirm this bug on a Mandriva 2010.2 installation with Nvidia 173.14.28 from Mandriva's backports repositories.

--- Comment #6 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2011-09-10 04:53:07 CDT --- In Wine-1.3.28 the game no longer crashes when the screen resolution is set to 800x600. This is probably due to the fact that Opengl became the default renderer for DirectDraw. The crash is still reproducible in 1.3.28 if one explicitly sets ddr to gdi in the registry.
Tested with a Nvidia gfx card and proprietary drivers, Fedora 15, Gnome 3.

--- Comment #7 from firefly2442@hotmail.com 2013-02-09 20:17:27 CST --- Based on the system requirements of the game, I think the only resolution it supports is 1024x768.

The game definitely has issues with resolutions.

None of these links address or describe a problem similar to this bug.
The game switches resolution properly in 2.0-rc6 when ddr=gdi (ddr=opengl has never had such issue). The crash is reproducible with Wine 1.9.0 and below (the good commit is somewhere between 1.9.0 and 1.9.10 but I didn't bother performing a reverse bisect).
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GT 730/PCIe/SSE2 OpenGL core profile version string: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 378.09
Marking fixed (feel free to reopen if it's still present for you).
