Summary: Fonts get corrupted when switching from one X server ot another Product: Wine Version: 1.1.19 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: fonts AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: fdelente@mail.cpod.fr
I play games in wine in a maybe unusual settings, but very convenient in my opinion: I start wine in a second X server so that, in case of a major bug in wine, I can kill it quickly with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
I play Warhammer Soulstorm and Neverwinter Nights 2 that way; but when I leave the game running in the 2nd server, and switch back to the 1st one (Ctrl-Alt-F1), then come back to the 2nd one, the fonts sometimes get corrupted: some characters are missing, or are garbled, or are blocky.
IIRC, it happened when I upgraded the X.org server about 1 year ago, but I can't be sure.

Try the work-around here: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-8db18a5bcede469b4862c5771120099cbf0a07a3
If that works, I think it's probably not a Wine bug.

If that works, I think it's probably not a Wine bug.
I tried adding
"ClientSideWithRender"="N"
to my user.reg, but it didn't solve the problem; however I didn't put it in a fresh .wine, but in my .wine after installing the game.
As for the screenshots, I'm in the process of making them (both ok and with fonts corrupted).

to my user.reg,
Don't do that. Use regedit instead.

I tried with regedit instead of editing user.def manually, but it gave the same result: the bug is still here.
Is adding that to a clean .wine compulsory? What's the problem of adding it after having installed the game?

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-11-19 12:53:24 --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 6 months. Is this still an issue in current (1.1.33 or newer) wine?
