Created an attachment (id=14299) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14299) stderr when trying to load or begin the game.
Sound works correctly during the intro cutscene, however after entering the menu it hangs. After trying to begin a new game or load an existing one, the game becomes irresponsive.
Wine exits on clicking the "Audio" tab in the setup utility launched from the Red Faction launcher.
The problem occurs on both ALSA and OSS.

I wasn't able to download it from download.com - the download was being interrupted over and over again. I've fetched it from http://downloads.gamezone.com/demos/d3282.htm
The setup utility behaves similarly - wine quits on entering Audio tab with ALSA/OSS sound enabled.
I have turned off the sound in winecfg, enabled the sound in the Red Faction's setup application and turned it back on in winecfg. After these operation ingame sound works fine.
Would you like to see the stderr?

--- Comment #8 from Dawid Hanak nugrud@gmail.com 2009-03-21 14:53:20 --- Menu no more hangs for me since at least two last wine editions (1.1.16 and 1.1.17), so I finally played the game and can confirm it's fully finishable under wine now :) The sound didn't work correctly during cut-scenes, though. Characters' voices were pretty shifted from mouth movements (and the shift seemed random, sometimes it was longer, sometimes shorter, during last cut-scene there was no shift at all) and wine was reporting dsound (DSOUND_MixOne) fatal errors ("Under/Overflow?") in background. Also when launching the game via RedFaction.exe there was no sound in menu, silence. That didn't happed if launched RF.exe.

--- Comment #9 from Dawid Hanak nugrud@gmail.com 2009-03-21 16:47:03 --- I've just tried to reproduce those dsound fatal errors during cut-scenes, but couldn't, there are no such in the two cut-scenes I tried. The shift is still there, but none of the wine logs report anything wrong with dsound.
Back to bug: I had all this issues as Jan reported here, but none of are now present in wine (as of 1.1.17), and appdb test data also do not mention them anymore. So, maybe the status could be changed to resolved?
