Summary: Skype 3.5.x with alsa driver - "problem with playback device" Product: Wine Version: 0.9.49. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-winelib AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: alexd14@hushmail.com
Created an attachment (id=9067) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=9067) +winealsa log
Running skype in wine, Windows ME mode. Trying to start a call fails, with skype displaying this status in red: "problem with playback device". Strangely, there seems to be a workaround - click the call button just after skype is started, then it usually succeeds. May be related to the Skype "intro sound" still playing just after skype is started?

--- Comment #2 from Maarten Lankhorst maarten@codeweavers.com 2007-11-10 09:44:52 --- It's a bug in alsa lib, nothing I can do about it. You have to file a bug report there. As a workaround you can play some music at the background and then it won't complain.
The bug is most easily found in dlls/dsound/tests by running the 'dsound' test. (wine dsound_test.exe.so dsound) it will fail with 'device busy'. However on my system with alsa lib v1.0.14 it seems to no longer occur, so perhaps they fixed it.

--- Comment #3 from Maarten Lankhorst maarten@codeweavers.com 2007-11-10 09:47:34 --- Correction, I had an application in the background that used alsa, it still happens on v1.0.14.

--- Comment #4 from alexd14@hushmail.com 2007-12-01 05:13:29 --- Re filing a bug to alsa lib - well, since I never coded anything that directly used alsa lib and it will take me a good deal of time to figure what really goes wrong with alsa (internally in winealsa), I think it would be more logical if you forward it to them (if you didn't already). That way it will be more detailed and useful than what I would currently be able to tell them (skype doesn't work in wine probably won't do for alsa devs :) ).
