Bug ID: 56221 Summary: Quick start failure for Civilization 4 Product: Wine Version: 9.0 Hardware: x86-64 URL: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=appl ication&iId=2514 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: Markus.Elfring@web.de Distribution: ---
I tried another start out for the game “Civilization IV” by components from the software package “wine 9.0-1670.1”.
Markus_Elfring@Sonne:~> wine 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier'''s Civilization 4\Sid Meier'''s Civilization 4 starten.lnk' 007c:fixme:hid:handle_IRP_MN_QUERY_ID Unhandled type 00000005 … 00bc:err:ntoskrnl:ZwLoadDriver failed to create driver L"\Registry\Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SecDrv": c0000142 003c:fixme:service:scmdatabase_autostart_services Auto-start service L"SecDrv" failed to start: 1114 0024:fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00004000 …
I wondered then why a corresponding application window was not presented.
Markus_Elfring@Sonne:~> strace wine 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier'''s Civilization 4\Sid Meier'''s Civilization 4 starten.lnk' … exit_group(3) = ? +++ exited with 3 +++
How will the clarification be continued with such information?

--- Comment #1 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- Please, try in a new fresh wine prefix. If the bug still occurs, try to set the wine version to windows 20000

--- Comment #2 from Markus Elfring Markus.Elfring@web.de --- (In reply to joaopa from comment #1) I can temporarily switch the Windows version from 10 to 2000 for another test of my wine configuration. I do not see a corresponding graphical improvement at the moment.
Will it become more interesting to narrow the error situation down for the hint “exited with 3”?

--- Comment #3 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- To try to find the bug, it is more useful to test in a fresh wineprefix to avpid competiton between softwares. So try that at first.
if the bug still occurs in a fresh wineprefix, try the demo always in a fresh winerepfix. If the bug appears in the demo, someone else can test and help

and start the software in the canoicl way: cd in the folder of the application and launch the application with the command cd myappli.exe.

--- Comment #4 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- I meant: with the command wine myappli.exe

--- Comment #5 from Bernhard Übelacker bernhardu@mailbox.org --- Your logging lines look like a copy protection driver got installed, but fails to run (c0000142, STATUS_DLL_INIT_FAILED). Therefore the main application might not even open a window. Got it installed from CD media?
And if you wondered why a strace did not show more interesting, if you use the .lnk file, wine is using start.exe which spawns a new process, which gets not strace'ed by your command.

--- Comment #6 from Markus Elfring Markus.Elfring@web.de --- (In reply to Bernhard Übelacker from comment #5)
Got it installed from CD media?
I could install the game from an original DVD after a few retries.
