Bug ID: 37554 Summary: sins of solar empire 1.0 not installing on ubuntu 14.10 with newest version but used to ubuntu 12.04 with wine Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: sillypeople139@gmail.com Distribution: ---
i go to setup.exe on dvd and run it with wine. program comes up gives choice but doesn't install anything. This extremely disappointly because it used to install on ubuntu 12.04 with but doesn't any more. There is no repair install option as it says to use in your forums. I am using an amd 8 core 64bit fx black edition processor, 32 mb of high speed ddr3, and dual saphire graphics cards with amd gpus on them.

--- Comment #1 from roger@mailinator.com --- what wine --version says?
You most likely need to upgrade it.

--- Comment #2 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
I can't reproduce this with a distributed "backup".
Mounted the ISO, ran 'setup.exe' with 'Easy install' and 'Advanced Install' options. Both installed fine.
You put the emphasis on the wrong part of specs. Those hardware specs are not that useful. Wine version and terminal output are the interesting things.

please don't respond with email, write here in the bug. Thanks.
Email content:
--- quote --- the wine version is wine 1.6.2 according to ubuntu software center version and terminal wine --version says 1.6.2 after reinstall of wine. first install only gave errors after wine --version
wine setup.exe > filename #where filename is any filename won't with a path outside the dvd
will not redirect output to a file which is bash syntax.
but this is a copy from the terminal

I tried overriding obdc drivers but had no effect. i know this is a database reading error but i don't know how to fix it --- quote ---
You need to upgrade to Wine 1.7.x series, preferably Wine 1.7.31+ If you don't know how to do that, seek help in WineHQ user forums (http://forum.winehq.org/). Bugzilla is not meant for end user support.
