Summary: Spore Creature Creature: Failed to connect to license server Product: Wine Version: 1.0.0 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ghoti2007@gmail.com
The retail version of the Creature Creator does not start, it cannot connect to the license server to start. "Ensure your internet connection is active and try again in a few minutes." I tried immediately after with a windows box and worked just fine.
Console output doesn't seem to mention anything other than some harmless warnings about the graphics settings.

--- Comment #4 from Neville Phillips nogagplz@gmail.com 2008-08-29 15:21:10 --- Using wine-1.1.3-294-g71aa14a, it would get the same problem, until I saw paul.dll in the sporebin directory. I got the notion to replace it with a cracked one (bundled with a "fixed" Bioshock .exe), and things progressed slightly by telling me it was missing lang.ini.
Then, after then using the lang.ini from Bioshock (very very hacked up >> blame not going to bed) it loaded, and got to a dialogue box that asked me to enter my serial number. I didn't get further than this however, since I have no idea where I need to get it from, so will ask my sister when she wakes up (as it's her copy of creature creator).
Apart from that hiccup, it looked like it was even able to access the authentication server properly too, since it said the serial number I typed in (it was just random characters) was not in their database, and gave an option for manual activation.

--- Comment #9 from anonymous-scsi scs_i@hotmail.co.uk 2008-09-09 10:03:57 --- I'm not so hopeful about the winhttp patch; using a native winhttp stops some of the error messages but doesn't help. By the way, if you use the native comctl32.dll and friends you can eliminate some errors but still not fix it.

Try this patch: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2008-September/061125.html
At least for me, this patch fixes the license server issue in the normal Spore game, for me. Thank you very much.

You don't need it just use the latest version in GIT and it spore works with the drm.

--- Comment #18 from Hans Leidekker hans@meelstraat.net 2008-09-13 04:47:18 --- There's no output from builtin winhttp in that log, perhaps you are using native? Be careful with posting a log from builtin winhttp, it may contain your license code.

--- Comment #19 from H. Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2008-09-13 07:55:08 --- Yeah, that's with native winhttp. It doesn't work because native winhttp needs schannel for https, which is unimplemented in Wine.

Opps, i must have done that before i found this bug and forgot about it. I didn't even pay attention to see that there was no winhttp output. Thank's for pointing that out. Once changed, it did work.

Please try again at some later time as EA are having problems with their license server.
