The question is, should this and all other riched20 bugs affecting Office be closed as duplicates of bug 14980, or should they be kept open because Wine's riched20 should be fixed (in which case, IMO, bug 14980 should be closed)?

Yes, I think we should always use native riched20 with Office, when it provides its own, for various reasons. So this should be closed and bug 14980 kept open until there's a permanent solution for that.
