--- Comment #1 from Jim Hawking jehawking@yahoo.co.uk 2008-12-05 17:57:31 --- Using 1.1.10 - it seemed to install perfectly well. When it initially starts it tries to determine the graphical capabilities available. Lots of screen flashing and flickering, the same exception message as above then a few fixmes finishing with "fixme:d3d:WineD3D_ChoosePixelFormat Add OpenGL context recreation support to SetDepthStencilSurface", no backtrace, then it gave up and closed.
It clearly learnt something from its testing because it generated a video.cfg file and would set up something ???sensible??? on subsequent passes but still closed in just the same way.
I tried playing with emulating a window size and fbo/backbuffer/pbuffer but it made no difference. My machine is an AMD 64bit laptop with X700 graphics running OpenSuse 11.0 with fglrx drivers.

--- Comment #4 from MD.IMAM HOSSAIN imamdxl8805@gmail.com 2011-07-25 03:08:23 CDT --- After doing sed -i -e "s:Microsoft Synthesizer:Microsotf Synthesizer:1" dlls/dmsynth/synth.c got from bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21249 and applying this ddraw patch http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35470 from bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2082
I can get into the game, run like normal, menu flickers when Renderer selected as Direct3D but not in Software. Video options menu text all messed up but gameplay is normal at all Direct3D settings and resolutions.

--- Comment #6 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- The game does not start here, and Xephyr and Xnest are crashing when trying to test with 16bit depth. My guess is that this is still present.

Maybe it could work with other gpu model.

--- Comment #8 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- The game starts properly in Xephyr now, I cannot reproduce the original issue in wine 1.6 or 1.9.12.
Also tested in wine 1.1.44, 1.2.3 and 1.4.1 but all crash with different problems. I vote WORKSFORME but it wouldn't hurt for a Nvidia/Ati user to test again.
To test in Xephyr:
Xephyr -screen 800x600x16 :1 & DISPLAY=:1 wine midtrial.exe
(assuming GNU/Linux as OS).
