Summary: Monkey Island 3 demo slow Product: Wine Version: 1.1.0 Platform: PC URL: ftp://ftp.lucasarts.com/demos/pc/cursedemo.exe OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: tsalacinski@gmail.com
Monkey Island 3 works pretty slow with Wine 1.1.0.
It happens only in complex locations, where there is a waterfall etc.
COMI works very slow, even on my Core2Duo 2.53 GHZ (which is pretty good for that game I think).
The strange thing is, when the screen is scrolling (eg. the character moves to the other part of the scene and the scene is scrolling) it work properly. When the scene is static (eg. no scrolling, only animated parts like waterfall or rain etc) it works very bad.
In this demo you can see this when you are shooting with the cannon. A part of walkthrough (on how to get to the cannon):
After the intro you'll find yourself captive in LeChuck's ship. Start talking to the small pirate and you'll realize that it's your old friend Wally. Make him see that he is no good as a pirate and he will soon drop his hook and start crying. Pick up the plastic hook from the floor and pick up the ramrod from the wall. Use the cannon and sink the four boats full of skeletons.
Thanks

Can't test in 1.3.27. There is a crash during the loading. It's attached.
Backtrace shows: =>0 0x7e96f84d DDSD_to_DDSD2+0x1d(in=(nil), out=0x32fb04) [/home/bjesus/programs/wine-git/dlls/ddraw/utils.c:1182] in ddraw (0x0032fa34)
The function DDSD_to_DDSD2 does not handle a nil parameter. Probably it should never receive null as parameter...

--- Comment #3 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2011-09-06 03:14:03 CDT --- Bruno Jesus: What you are seeing is probably bug 28259 . You could give it a try with the commit before.

Stefan Dösinger patches were applied so know the crash from comment #3 is not happening anymore.
But there is a new crash in the application. What WINEDEBUG flags should be used to get a better log?

I'm still getting the same crash from comment #5.
Set Windows version to Win98 to get rid of the early crash. The demo crashes so frequently for me at various points that I wasn't able to test the existence of this bug.

I agree with you, the game does not start if win version is higher than 98. And in win 98 mode the game crashes randomly (wine 1.5.6).

sha1sum cursedemo.exe 707129ce361bbc6ee28d5f4c6265de4425c4a0e8
Size around 18,2megabytes which is selfextracting exe.
I installed the demo and it crashes while trying to play
with wine 1.7.17
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14415
--- Comment #13 from Jarkko K jarkko_korpi@hotmail.com --- I retry. Now with wine 1.7.18.
Setting windows mode 98 --> I was able to play. I didnt set it before at earlier test.
But it feels that I get random crashes too. 3 crashes already...
The cursor could be a bit more responsive at starting scene, but the animation is smooth.
I assume the game is pretty much same shape as reported before.
