--- Comment #13 from Stephen E. Baker cycoone@hotmail.com 2008-12-11 19:27:53 --- The current behaviour seems to be a regression. Before I could override iccvid.dll and run the introductory sequence of the game until at a point it crashed. Now it gives an unexpected error dialog immediately following the splash screen.

Please run a regression test: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

--- Comment #15 from Stephen E. Baker cycoone@hotmail.com 2008-12-12 21:54:37 --- Sorry, I was mistaken about the regression. The behavior in wine 1.1.10 is the same as it was in earlier versions.
In the test where I thought I had come across the regression I had just set the iccvid.dll to native in winecfg, neglecting to actually add a win98 version of the library to the .wine directory.

This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 6 months. Is this still an issue in current (1.1.35 or newer) wine?
Yes. I'm using openSuse 11.2 with wine 1.1.39.
I get the following messages after the game crashes:

What can I do to provide more information why this happens?

I quickly tried to reproduce this in 1.3.16. The crash occured in the same place but the full output was:

I've spent quite a bit of time on Google now, and asked on irc, but I haven't gotten anywhere with this. I have libxrender; otherwise I'm using r300g drivers and KMS with no xorg.conf. You're sure this 'fixme' is a system problem and not a wine problem?

Is that a 64-bit system? If yes, do you have 32-bit xrender libs installed?

The system is 32-bit. I switched to XRender mode in KWin and verified it's working.
By playing with the wine registry I was able to get rid of that line but game still crashed and the rest of the output was the same.
I made the change suggested in the last comment here: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=54321&sid=ed0fcf8d3ef3fbe093b795...
