commandline output when running "wine MinitroidTechDemo.exe"

The Minitroid tech demo does no start.  When I run MinitroidTechDemo.exe,
before any window appears it pops up the following error message:

Runtime Error

An unexpected error occurred and the application was terminated.  We
apologize for the inconvenience.

Please report this problem to the application developer.

Does a native d3dx9_36 (if you have a windows license...) solve the problem?

It solves that problem, but there are now other problems that prevent it from
running.  How should I proceed with those problems?  Submit a new bug report,
or continue the discussion here, or something else?

Please file a new bug for other problems, and mention this bug and the
workaround.

I can see the issue in wine 1.3.22 but in wine 1.7.3 the demo starts, the music
is played and it's possible to play with the keyboard. There is a text writing
problem (invisible text) but that's another issue.
