--- Comment #1 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-04-29 20:49:04 --- The latest Wine is 0.9.60, but Ubuntu Hardy comes with 0.9.59. Which is it? Also, what driver are you using? fglrx or the open source ATI driver?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12870
--- Comment #2 from Kriss krisska@gmx.de 2008-04-30 03:43:25 --- I test it with 0.9.59 and then I install the 0.9.60 version about the ubuntu proposed packages with the ubuntu update manager. I have the error with both versions.
I use fglrx from the Ubuntu sources and install it with this Method: "System -> Administration -> Restricted Drivers Manager" and select "ATI accelerated graphics driver"

I test Guild Wars with an older Nvdia Card and it works.
Sorry for false alarm.

Kriss, reopen the bug, it's not a false alarm! I also have this problem, all fglrx users have this problem, so it's not a false alarm: it's an issue.

Guild wars starts to 'work' again, unfortunately my card is only marginally supported by it so is unplayable. So its definitely fglrx related :-)

I know it's fglrx related, probably the same issue as this bug (posted by me) http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12929 but it seems that no one's too much interested in fixing it because nVidia users don't have any problem and they think that preventing all ATI/fglrx users to use D3D is not a so big problem... or at least this has been my impression...

GW should be downgraded from platinum until this bug has been resolved.

--- Comment #25 from Forrest Loomis cybercyst@gmail.com 2008-07-19 19:29:01 --- I can play Guild Wars again!
This seems to have to do with Bug 12929, directx problems with fglrx drivers.
Here is what I have to do.
Goto http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12929.
First, if you get libGL drmMap errors, you need to get the reverse_preloader patch I put there. That fixes that error for me.
Secondly, comment out the two lines mentioned in that bug report that are found in dlls/wined3d/directx.c.
Now I can run Guild Wars with -nosound. I just have to find out how to fix the stack overflow error I get when I try and play it with sound.
Other than that, Guild Wars works!
I am running Ubuntu 8.04, Catalyst 8.6, with an HD2600 Mobility.
Tell me if it works for you!

I wasn't going to say anything, but when I tried running it with the -dx8 flag, it did the same thing, except the error box described in this bug popped up in addition.
I'm using wine 1.1.15.
