Anyway, I'd think on Linux it would be easier to code a GTK+/Qt app than to re-implement Windows API, as Wine does, so I don't see the complexity of writing a simple helper application which would pass on the colors to Wine.
Please don't think I'm criticizing the people doing the amazing work developing Wine -- as I have said, I understand the complexity of the task the program aims to accomplish. I'm just very surprised such a simple thing as probing the colors is regarded as a complicated task.
