Console log from running Sims2

On running The Sims 2, a splash screen appears, and then an error box stating:

"Direct3D returned an error: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL! The application will now
terminate"

Upon clicking OK, the application terminated.

An nVidia GeForce FX 5200; the card works fine if the machine is booted into
Windows, so I assume the spec is high enough. The driver I am using is the
latest nVidia driver (169.12).

I have just tested the demo and found that the same thing happens; I have
attached the console log

This seems to be the same issue as 8051 - should they be merged into the same
