first: I meant 1.1.7, not 1.0.7 sorry for that second: oh okay...I've tested it with 1.1.7 and it works...so I thought, that it will work in newer versions...

Could I get you to test 1.1.12 and see if it works for you? Also, are you doing anything special for the installer? I get the same problem launching it from the Firefox download list, or from the shell:
shell> msiexec /i QuakeLiveNP.msi

--- Comment #8 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-01-07 17:00:34 --- 1.1.12 had some regressions. Try from git, downgrade to 1.1.11, or wait for 1.1.13.

With wine 1.1.12 I get the same result as in 1.1.7 (when installed with 1.1.7)
I installed the plugin by launching it from the firefox download list.
If that is the problem, how can I remove the plugin and reinstall it and how do I have to reinstall it?
thanks @ Austin I'll give it a try

--- Comment #14 from detructor15 steffen.linux@gmx.de 2009-01-14 00:51:50 --- I've done the following now:
* renamed my .wine directory and created a new one * installed firefox 3.x via wine 1.1.2 * installed the adobe flash player for firefox * moved to the quake live website, downloaded the add-on * closed firefox * double clicked the add on * the installation started and then it hangs itself up * killed wine and wineserver * opened a VM with Virtualbox (closed source version/the newest one with 3d support) * installed firefox on the VM (it was a Win XP SP3) * moved the firefox folder from my wine directory into the VM and replaced the firefox directory in the VM with the .wine firefox directory * started firefox and moved to the beta.quakelive.com website * started a game and it worked :)
so it seems, that the installation is successfull. When you've once installed the add-on in wine, every new try will result in a crash of the installation! (don't know why, maybe because the files are already there)
But when starting a game, after loading is complete it still crashs in wine. (but it works in the VM, but you shouldn't install the virtualbox guest add-on, when you do, the mouse doesn't work correct ingame)

What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |kjmph@hotmail.com
--- Comment #15 from Kyle Hubert kjmph@hotmail.com 2009-01-25 21:33:56 --- I'm not sure if this helps, but when installing the plugin and the installation has hung wine says:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00001104 at address 0x7bc443d4 (thread 0031), starting debugger...
If you look at the process list you can see:
23756 pts/6 Sl 0:26 | _ ./firefox.exe 23819 pts/6 S 0:00 | _ msiexec /i C:\windows\profiles\NNNN\Desktop\QuakeLiveNP.msi 23821 pts/6 S 0:00 | _ C:\windows\profiles\All Users\Application Data\id Software\QuakeLive\pbsvc.exe /i --no-prompts --no-display --i-accept-the-pb-eula
If you kill the Punk Buster service installation, the plugin considers itself installed. And you can move on to the next Quake Live bug.
However, you can run the Punk Buster service yourself with prompts so you can cause the hang to recur:
$ wine ./pbsvc.exe /i Decompressing... Decompressing... Decompressing... wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00001469 at address 0x7bc45058 (thread 0013), starting debugger...
The last sequence of events in the Punk Buster service is:
Checking PnkBstrK driver status RUNNING Stopping PnkBstrK STOPPED Deleting PnkBstrK OK Checking PnkBstrK driver status DELETED
Maybe someone can use this to dig into the bug a bit deeper?

@ Kyle Hubert
Please don't mix different bugs. The problem with PunkBuster service deletion was bug 16946 (heap corruption due to client side service handle (mis)management) - already fixed in GIT. Either upgrade from GIT or wait for 1.1.14

--- Comment #19 from Michael Monreal infernux@web.de 2009-01-28 11:13:08 --- Installation of the plugin hung for me just like for anyone else but after killing all wine processes the plugin is detected as being installed. Is it actually installed correctly?
I wonder if we should have another bug for the crash we/I get now (after the installation) or if this is caused by a broken plugin installation.

Either right-click and run with program installer or with msiexec. Both work for me. Note that I am using 1.1.14 and 1.1.15.

I can second that, installing the plugin worked for me in 1.1.14 (with a clean .wine/ directory)
