Summary: Warcraft III does not start Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc5 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: amikrop@gmail.com
I am using Wine 1.0-rc5 under Ubuntu 8.04. When I try to run Warcraft III (either Reign of Chaos, or The Frozen Throne), I get stack at a black screen, right after Warcraft lowers the screen resolution (as it always does). No logs are created, and that occurs whether I use the -opengl Warcraft option, or not.

--- Comment #2 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2008-06-19 14:34:36 --- Did it work with an earlier wine version? Could you have a look at these bugs http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=warcraft+3 ? Probably the same as http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11706 or http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6618 ? Please attach a log with +relay,+seh,+tid.

--- Comment #3 from Aristotelis Mikropoulos amikrop@gmail.com 2008-06-20 05:44:07 --- It worked fine with earlier versions (0.9.x). It may have similarities with the bugs you mentioned, but I could say it has some different symptoms. I should, also, mention that this occurs whether I have enabled "Extra" desktop effects (compiz-fusion), or not (metacity). I am sorry I could not provide logs this time, but wait for them, as they will come soon.

It worked fine with earlier versions (0.9.x).
Please run a regression test http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting .

--- Comment #5 from Ryan Prior ryanprior@gmail.com 2008-12-05 16:03:38 --- I'm now running Wine 1.1.9, and have started playing the game again. It had the same problem once more, but then I haven't seen it since -- it appears to be a sporadic thing, perhaps related to other things going on in the background while I play. In the meantime, I have no clue as to how to proceed in finding where the bug comes from or what triggers it. I'm just not that savvy. Sorry!

--- Comment #6 from Nicky nheart@gmail.com 2009-05-28 09:34:03 --- What are you using? Alsa or oss? If you use alsa set hardware acceleration to basic/full. With oss the game works regardless of what hardware emulation is set to. Had the same problem, which I solved at first by changing winecfg settings and later by switching to oss4.

My wine version is 1.1.37 and I also was trying to use PlayonLinux but it has the same issue.
after navigating to the folder I type wine "Frozen Throne.exe" -opengl
and then... the splash screen and this in the terminal.

Reported fixed then. Probably abandoned since the original reporter did not provide required information.
