When attempting to install the Trion GLyph installer to use their MMO manager,
to play the game Defiance - it will not run the installer. It crashes out, but
gives no error message (it says "Loading.... Please Wait" but even if left to
load for hours, it does not load any error information.

Fourth attempt finally spat this out

After more than 3 attempts to install, this is the only time it actually gave
me some sort of error detail (in the console, not in the "error window" - that
still shows nothing but "loading... please wait") so I have attached that here.

You need to upgrade your wine into 1.7 series of wine. We are currently at
1.7.49. Your wine haven't been upgraded around 2 years.

I thought that 1.6.2 is the "stable" version (and that's why I use it) and that
1.7 is the "development" version.

I'll give 1.7 a shot then.

Trion Glyph had some issues that were fixed in the development version of wine.
This is possibly a duplicate of one of these old problems. The current Trion
Glyph version will only run in wine 1.7.49 due to bug 37583.

Error log after Glyph installed, but could not start game

After upgrading to wine1.7 and rerunning the Glyph installer, I now get THIS
error when trying to start up the client to actually play the game.

I read in the other (closed) bug for the Trion Glyph installer that installing
vcrun2012 and vcrun2013 seemed to help in some cases.

I tried winetricks to install those, but only have up to vcrun2010 available. 
I will google for vcrun2013/2012 and update here if it works.

You are using wine 1.7.44, the app requires the current 1.7.49. You can ask for
whoever produced the packages about when they will release the current wine
version. You can also compile wine from source.

Unfortunately I am very rusty when it comes to compiling (last time I did it
was around 2000!) so I will just have to wait for the release of 1.7.49
(because I updated my sources and added the ubuntu wine ppa and that was what I
got when I installed wine1.7) or just play the game on the "game PC" which is
Windows. I was just really hoping to install it on my laptop. I've had luck
with other games using wine, so I was hopeful for this to work too.
