Summary: Sound problem in Star Trek: Bridge Commander Product: Wine Version: 1.1.2 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: cherva@abv.bg
Star Trek: Bridge Commander has problems with the audio. The game works perfectly, but loops the first second of the audio which the game should play. Eg. if the game start with the intro until you exit the game the first second of the intros music is played. If the game is started without an intro the game loops the click sound when you hover over a button.

--- Comment #1 from Athrun samurai_no_densetsu@yahoo.es 2008-08-20 12:28:25 --- That was using OSS, ALSA or PulseAudio?
Because never had audio problems with this game (using ALSA), but it might behave that way if you use OSS, because OSS only accept one app using the dsp, and most windows apps go mute after a movie (because the movie and app are trying to access the dsp at same time).

--- Comment #2 from Dimitar Boichev cherva@abv.bg 2008-08-20 16:33:59 --- I'm using OSS v4 and I don't have thre problems of one app using the dsp. I have sound on any app I start. And if this is true, even the intro isn't played right ( it just repeats the first second till I close the game )

--- Comment #4 from Dimitar Boichev cherva@abv.bg 2008-08-21 03:12:25 --- I made it major because if this is fixed the game goes Platinium and this game really deserves this.

--- Comment #5 from Athrun samurai_no_densetsu@yahoo.es 2008-08-21 06:28:46 --- (In reply to comment #4) This game is platinum for me (and others as I see) since wine 1.0, and same in wine 1.1.2, but you must know that rating is only an user/mantainer report of its usability, and not every user will get the same (example lots of ati card users has a lot of problems with same game that nvidia users reports as platinum, due to crappy ati drivers and claim that there's a wine bug while is a driver or hardware issue).
But maybe we are in luck, somenoe giving platinum in Bridge Commander 1.0 using OSS wrote:
The ONLY thing you have to do is: go to Configure Wine -> Audio tab. There, remove the mark in front of Alsa driver, and put a mark in front of OSS driver. Tick the box next to "Driver Emulation". This isn't necessary, but it will prevent minor background noise :)
But as I said previously ALSA work like a charm for me, never had any problem with this game since wine 1.0, less an audio problem.

--- Comment #9 from Athrun samurai_no_densetsu@yahoo.es 2008-08-21 06:56:24 --- The point was to 'set "Hardware Acceleration" to "Emulation" and tick the box next to "Driver Emulation"', please try it, also just to check I ran the game in pure OSS in my own setup with Bridge Commander 1.1 with no mods, and I got no audio problem at all...
