Summary: older D3D games slowed down after upgrading wine from 0.9.15 to 0.9.16 Product: Wine Version: 0.9.16. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-binary AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: huivzhopu@hotmail.com
I'm using binary packages for Slackware as provided on winehq.org website.
For example, this Tomb Raider 2 demo http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,4438,00.asp
Inside the game itself, I enable hardware acceleration, 1024x768 hicolor and fullscreen.
Under wine 0.9.15, the gameplay is smooth without any lag whatsoever. Under wine 0.9.16, I have 99% CPU utilization and it feels like only 5 frames per second.
Turning sound off (from within game), does not help. Also changing settings (windowed vs fullscreen, resolution, etc) does not change speed at all. E.g. at 320x200 resolution the speed is still extremely slow. I removed the binary 0.9.16 package, re-installed 0.9.15 and verified that game speed returns to normal. Installed 0.9.16 and again, speed dropped.
Same problem occurs in a few other games, however this Tomb Raider demo is the only one that I found to be publicly available.
