Summary: Strange keyrepeat problem Product: Wine Version: 0.9.54. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: directx-dinput AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: atari@gabo.pl
While playing Half Life 2, I've encountered following problem: sometimes key 'stucks' in 'keyrepeat mode'. Ie. I press 'W' for forward, and I get 'W' in keyrepeat WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW(...). It is system-wide, so if I launch xterm, I got WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW..., if I switch console got WWWWWWWWWWWWWWW... and so on, until I kill X. It is not limited to 'W', it is just most often key I'm stuck with.
It is not hardware problem (tested).

If it's a system wide problem, then the problem is not in wine. File a bug with your distro/X.

You said yourself that it's system wide.
If you get the problem, then run 'wineserver -k' does the problem go away without killing X?

--- Comment #4 from Adam Klobukowski atari@gabo.pl 2008-02-14 18:10:07 --- No, the problem does not bo away after 'wineserver -k'.

No, the problem does not bo away after 'wineserver -k'.
Then the problem is not in wine. It is in X/your distribution.

--- Comment #6 from Emmanuel Andry eandry@mandriva.org 2008-05-10 08:46:20 --- Does someone have it resolved ? I've opened a bug report against Mandriva bugzilla. https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=40720
Please let me know if someone has a bug report against another distro, would be wise to join our forces to kill this bug.

--- Comment #7 from William fuquawa@rose-hulman.edu 2008-05-10 18:35:07 --- I have this happening to me as well, and I'm running Arch Linux. It only starts to happen when I'm in Wine, but continues even if I quit the application that I am running via Wine.
I get the same problem as the OP. I'm running a game under Wine (Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, in my case). About 5-10 minutes into the game, whatever key I'm pressing down at that particular moment gets repeated forever. When I exit the game, the key is still pressed down, making it impossible to use a terminal to debug it further. It also prevents me from switching to other terminals or restarting X via Ctrl-alt-bksp. I've noticed that when I press Ctrl-Alt-F1, the character 'P' is printed out among the repeated characters, so it may be possible that the keyboard is getting remapped. Since I cannot use a terminal when this problem is occurring, I made a script I could double click that kills X. This fixes the problem until the game is run again.
