Summary: Column headers don't always resize to fit text when double-clicked Product: Wine Version: 1.3.12 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: trivial Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk
When you try to double-click (with the left mouse button) on a column header WHEN THE MOUSE POINTER SHOWS DOUBLE BLACK ARROWS, like this <-|-> the column is supposed to resize to fit the longest line of text below it perfectly.
In programs such as Pegasus Mail and many others which use resizeable columns e.g. 1by1 Player, double-clicking the column header results in any of the following: * nothing happens * messes up the columns - depending on text size * the column will resize properly
Although trivial, I believe Wine users should report bugs when they are discovered.
Please test this using 1by1 Player and play around with the font size in the application's settings (press <F6> to get into the program's settings). Now try resizing the columns with different font sizes and double-clicking the vertical lines which separate the columns. Download 1by1 Player: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/1by1.html

--- Comment #1 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2011-02-05 19:11:44 CST --- This is best tried with Pegasus Mail: www.pmail.com
Download and install. When installed, you will see some 'introduction' e-mails (which tell you a little bit about Pegasus Mail). The column headers do nothing when you double left-click the vertical dividers; they are supposed to resize the entire column to fit the text contents below, optimally.
Having Googled this, I come across this msdn page, not sure if it's the right one (?), but it does say: "Users can also double-click a divider to automatically resize the associated row, column, or header band based on its contents." http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171604.aspx
Hope that helps? :)

--- Comment #2 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com 2011-02-05 19:22:51 CST --- Does it use a regular Header from comctl32? Try 'winetricks cc580' to be sure.

Tried that, doesn't work.
I'm guessing that as it's a minor bug here, this one can be fixed easier?

--- Comment #4 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2011-04-09 16:08:42 CDT --- -UPDATE-
Using Wine version 1.3.17 at the moment.
In 1by1 Player, the column header labelled "Filename (+)" does resize properly when you double left-click the vertical line.
When running other Windows programs containing column headers via Wine e.g. Pegasus Mail, the column headers do nothing or they shrink when double left-clicked. In Windows, all column headers in all Windows programs should auto-fit the contents below them when you double left-click the vertical divider line. This is especially important in programs such as Microsoft Excel, as the columns have to be resized to auto-fit by double left-clicking. I don't have Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Office to test this out.

Development recommends to check the status on your bug every release or two and let to be known if the bug is still present. If not, mark it fixed. If you are no longer able to put effort to this ticket, you can abandon it.
Is this still an issue with 1.7.4 or higher ?

Confirming. Columns still don't re-size in Pegasus Mail v4.70. Tested in wine-1.7.28.
To workaround Pegausus crashes when first run: winetricks ie8.
