Summary: Flash does not work with new Wine-Gecko Product: Wine Version: 1.1.12 Platform: PC-x86-64 URL: http://steampowered.com/ OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: mshtml AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: vitaliy@kievinfo.com
After installing flash player plugin (copying files from ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/plugins into ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/gecko/0.9.0/wine_gecko/plugins) flash still does not work in Wine's iexplore and other programs using flash (ex: Steam).
The same plugin works fine with Firefox itself.

--- Comment #5 from Robert M. Muncrief rmuncrief@comcast.net 2009-07-30 17:06:09 --- Note that if you don't want to recompile wine and use Jacek's hack (which works quite well by the way, thank you Jacek) I've added a workaround to enable scrollbars, Flash, and Steam store to work without compiling in the Steam HOWTO section.

--- Comment #6 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-07-30 21:32:06 --- It's a hack not a proper fix. I'm not interested in hacks, that's the whole point of the bugzilla.

--- Comment #7 from Robert M. Muncrief rmuncrief@comcast.net 2009-08-01 15:04:22 --- In retrospect this bug should be assigned to wine-Gecko since it's a Gecko bug that applies to any application using Gecko. I can't find a wine-Gecko entry in Bugzilla so could someone with the "power" :) create a Gecko bug thread and move this thread to it? Thanks.

--- Comment #8 from Jacek Caban jacek@codeweavers.com 2009-08-01 16:57:12 --- I don't know what makes you think it's a Gecko bug. It's definitely mshtml bug and the hack I've attached proves that.

You are correct, my mistake. Thank you for pointing out my error (and by the way I just added your patch to the howto as the preferred method for enabling Flash in Steam). In any case it's not a Steam bug, it's a mshtml bug which applies to any application that uses it. Shouldn't it be moved to another thread? Or is it appropriate to post generic component bugs on application specific threads? I'm new here and am unclear about bug classification criteria.

--- Comment #11 from 3vi1 winehq.org@eternaldusk.com 2009-08-07 20:01:52 --- I've got to agree with Vitaliy, but is there any chance of getting Jacek's workaround implemented in a non-specific-to-SWF form?
I'm really surprised that there haven't been more reports of this affecting other applications.
(Thanks to Ken for pointing my dupe here - can't believe I missed it in my search)

--- Comment #14 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-09-11 22:00:26 --- Still doesn't work with latest GIT. Tried completely new wineprefix with just wine_gecko.
Copying NPSWF32.dll into ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/gecko/1.0.0/wine_gecko/plugins or using winetricks flash doesn't change anything. Wine's iexplorer still doesn't show flash on http://www.steampowered.com/

Still doesn't work for me either. Tried it with iexplore.exe and Steam and Flash media didn't appear. I used Flash version 9.47 (the last version that doesn't flicker under wine) and the latest Flash player 10.
