The installer goes fine until you ask it to start installing. When it tries to download the first component, it exits abruptly. The last few lines on the console were

The qmgr lines are from a service, so they don't show up in the attached relay log. To get a relay log at all, I had to add KERNEL32.lstrcmpW;KERNEL32.SetLastError;KERNEL32.GetLastError;KERNEL32.TlsGetValue;KERNEL32.FlsGetValue;ntdll.RtlAllocateHeap;KERNEL32.MultiByteToWideChar;ntdll.RtlFreeHeap to RelayExclude, or it took forever. Even so, the relay log is huge. I'm attaching the last million lines, compressed with rzip.

you'll have to attach to the sub-installer from "C:\windows\temp\SITxxxx" to see something meaningful otherwise Microsoft's own JIT debugger (watson) ought to be called. Ironically the JIT debugger DW20.exe isn't present at this point because the package (dw20shared.msi) is to be downloaded first using winhttp ;-)

status -> WINHTTP_CALLBACK_STATUS_SENDREQUEST_COMPLETE
It seems the callback looks at the context parameter and relies on it to contain something meaningful when called.
dlls/winhttp/request.c:send_request() (task_send_request) already gets a context passed in (initially from WinHttpSendRequest).
Using that context gets the installer a little further only to stumble into next winhttp bug.
To work around you might try native winhttp.

this bug is fixed by commit e4471d5f80ed4cf0cfe5fedd0b01e66e92356255
The VS 2010 beta2 web bootstrapper now downloads all necessary files (980+ MiB). Might take a while depending on your pipe size...
There is no additional winhttp bug, I had a tainted GIT with other patches applied hence I saw a non-issue on receive path.
