As described in the summary, Dark horizon complains about the lack of Verdana
font. As a workaround, putting Verdana.ttf in the Fonts directory fixes the
problem.

I use a git version of wine and fontforge is well installed.

At the most this is an enhancement, or even a wontfix, Wine is not going
to create all the fonts shipped with Windows, ask font designers instead.

I agree that Wine can not implement all the Windows fonts. But can Wine
automagically use a another font to replace it (for instance Times Roman)?
[With a warning in the console saying that the requested font was replaced by
another one]

That's the job of the Wine package provider, since only he/she knows
what fonts are available on his/her platform.

You can manually set a replacement for Verdana in
HKCU\Software\Wine\Fonts\Replacements.

The latest patch for Dark Horizon is 1.0.7.0, and this patch already contains
verdana.ttf, and the font is placed in the game directory when patching the
game. Of course, without the installed verdana.ttf the game still fails to
start.

I think if anyone could try the game in real Windows without the verdana font
family installed, he/she would face the same problem when starting the game. If
that's true, this bug report should be closed as invalid.
