World of Goo crash log

I was elated to find World of Goo worked perfectly right out of install, and I
played it for a good four hours, on and off. This included closing out of the
game and restarting my computer. All during this time, the game would start up
without issue.

At one point, however, the game started crashing on startup, giving me five
separate error dialog windows. There was no software change to my system,
nothing modified, and absolutely no changes made at all between the last time
the game successfully started up and when it stopped working. Attached is the
game's crash log.

I am running Wine 1.1.6 and the game version is 1.0. I have attached the
terminal output after the command "wine worldofgoo.exe".

Can anybody tell between a vanilla user.reg and this, what specifically caused
it to crash?

Try:
$ mv ~/.wine ~/.wine.bak
$ wineboot
$ diff -u ~/.wine.bak/user.reg ~/.wine/user.reg

I confirm this error, but my machine has problems ATM that prevent me from
testing.

Please try the following.

After first running the game, this file is created:

~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/All\ Users/Application\
Data/2DBoy/WorldOfGoo/pers2.dat

It is the savegame file. Maybe it causes the problems.
Backup and delete it, then run the game again.

But this evening it refuses to start, using steam or the .exe file. I get an
error dialog box called "Fatal Error!" with the message attached.

I tried moving the pers2.dat file but it changed nothing.

Backing up and using a fresh user.reg fixed it for me, try that.

I tried just removing user.reg and I still have the bug. I also tried to remove
all the .reg files and I still got the error message.

I moved the .wine directory and event that didn't solve the problem. This is
very strange. Can a configuration file from a windows program can be store
elsewhere than in the .wine directory?

I removed the steam version of the demo and I installed the version available
on the developer site and it's working for the moment, even with my old .wine
directory. I checked and installing the demo does not change anything in the
.reg file. I even was able to use my save file form the steam version of the
demo.

Both the OR and the second person commenting reported over a year ago that they
solved their problem with a clean wineprefix. I don't know why this bug is
still open.
