When trying to scan with SoftPerfect Network Scanner wine says: "WARNING: Trying to use ICMP (network ping) will fail unless running as root" and then the program does nothing. If run as root the message goes away but the scan still doesn't do anything.
ICMP is the default scan mode. It can be changed in Options->Program Options->Method.
