Bug ID: 37816 Summary: Winetricks: asks to download ie6 from third-party source (inaccessible in China) when first-party source is available Product: Wine Version: 1.7.33 Hardware: x86 URL: http://www.oldversion.com/download-Internet-Explorer-6 .0.html OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: iamreggieman@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 50365 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=50365 Terminal output from running 'winetricks ie6'
When installing ie6 in Winetricks, it tells you to "download msie60.exe from http://www.oldversion.com/download-Internet-Explorer-6.0.html". This is a third-party source, there is a first-party source (Microsoft) available, listed on the AppDB: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=469 http://download.microsoft.com/download/ie6sp1/finrel/6_sp1/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-U...
The third-party source is inaccessible in China due to censorship.

--- Comment #2 from Murray iamreggieman@gmail.com --- The source may be accessable in China. I assumed it wasn't because a Chinese person came into the IRC channel #winehq the other day saying so. They were getting 'not found' and 'address is invalid' errors. He ended up using this source: http://www.westernpacificresearch.com/downloads/msie60.exe but it is a bit risky having to search for other third-party sources.

--- Comment #3 from Murray iamreggieman@gmail.com --- Great Firewall of China reports the site as uncensored in China:
http://www.greatfirewallofchina.org/index.php?siteurl=software.oldversion.co... http://www.greatfirewallofchina.org/index.php?siteurl=oldversion.com
so he may have had unrelated access issues.
