Bug ID: 40034 Summary: Trying to run a setup.exe from an installation disk for a linksys usb wireless adapter and it immediately opens the program error screen. Product: Wine Version: 1.9.2 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: alyssianagrace@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 53486 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=53486 program error details report as generated by wine by pressing the 'show details' button on the program error screen
Basically what it says in my summary. I inserted the disk into my disk drive and then had to navigate to the CD-ROM (I'm currently using Parrot Security OS if that matters). I right-clicked on the setup.exe and selected for it to run with 'a wine program'. When that opened the error code, I tried the other instance of 'a wine program', and then 'rundll32' and got the same error message. Attached is the backtrace.txt Wine generated when I tried 'rundll32'. Any help is appreciated but please note that I am very new to this OS and Wine.

I can't find flex. I have tried sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install flex, but then I get this: sudo apt-get install flex Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package flex is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
Any suggestions? I have done everything before this step in the patching guide from the link Austin English gave me (you're fab Austin, btw;)

Are you sure that you applied the patch? The backtrace looks the same, aside from a different stack layout, but the same missing function.
Also fyi you're using a very old version of wine, 1.6 is no longer supported.

Yes, I am sure I applied the patch. And I downloaded Wine from this site, the folder I have says wine-1.9.2 or something like that. (Not currently on my laptop rn) As far as I know, I am using the newest version of wine???

--- Comment #21 from super_man@post.com --- You must somehow run wrong wine.
sudo make install after compile. It doesnt become global wine until doing so when compiling from source.

you need to adjust the path to where your wine build is (looks like ~/wine-git/wine) / exe name (setup.exe).

It looks like you didn't actually build wine just downloaded the source (and maybe applied the patch?). You need to run ./configure && make.

--- Comment #29 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- Next time save it to a text file and attach that.
The backtrace still shows the patch isn't applied.

I have gone through all the steps! Okay, I'll run through it *again* and post results.

alyssa@backbox:~$ cd ~/wine-git/ alyssa@backbox:~/wine-git$ patch -p1 < wifi.patch patching file dlls/wlanapi/main.c patching file dlls/wlanapi/wlanapi.spec The next patch would create the file include/wlanapi.h, which already exists! Assume -R? [n]

--- Comment #32 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- That shows you applied the patch, but not building wine or using the newly built wine rather than the system one. That would also explain why the wine version is 1.6.2 / 1.8 instead of a newer version which would be expected if you built from git.

I am completely confused. What do I need to do to fix this to make it work?

--- Comment #34 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- As I mentioned in comment #15, the forums can help.
In short: cd ~/wine-git patch -p1 < /path/to/patch ./configure make -j4
Then, instead of: wine setup.exe Do: ~/wine-git/wine setup.exe
That should get past this issue. It may fail in a _different_ way, but if it's about WlanEnumInterfaces not being implemented, something went wrong.

alyssa@backbox:~/wine-git$ make -j4 make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
Okay so I ran ./configure && make -j4 and it finished and was fine. Since the setup.exe I want to run is on a cd, I went to the cd and got another error. Please see backtrace4.txt

--- Comment #38 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com --- It's exactly the same problem. Please use forums/wiki for general support on how to use or build Wine. Also note that there's a good chance wireless adapter software won't work with wine if it uses device drivers.

Note that this won't make your adapter work, it only fixes the installer. The installer may later fail with a different problem, that would be a new bug.
This will be in 1.9.4, which should be out tomorrow.
